Where necessary, plastic resins are dried to remove moisture that may affect product quality. The resin is then mixed with colour masterbatch and additives that improve ultraviolet stability, impact resistance, surface finish, or flexibility.

The blended material is fed into the hopper of an injection moulding machine. Inside the machine, the resin is heated until it melts into a homogeneous molten state before being injected under high pressure into precision-engineered steel moulds. The mould cavity determines the final shape, dimensions, thickness, and design features of the hanger.

Cooling channels within the mould rapidly reduce the temperature of the molten plastic until it solidifies. After cooling, the mould opens automatically and ejector pins release the finished hanger. Any excess plastic known as runners or sprues is trimmed from the product and can often be recycled back into production after grinding.

The finished hangers undergo quality inspection to ensure dimensional accuracy, colour consistency, mechanical strength, surface smoothness, and absence of manufacturing defects such as flash, sink marks, short shots, or warping. Products meeting quality specifications are counted, bundled, packaged into polyethylene bags or cartons, palletized, and transferred to the finished goods warehouse awaiting distribution.

Modern production facilities may utilize multiple cavity moulds capable of producing several hangers during every injection cycle. This significantly increases productivity while reducing unit production costs.

The machinery required for a medium-scale plastic hanger factory typically includes injection moulding machines, hanger moulds, plastic mixers, hopper loaders, industrial chillers, air compressors, cooling systems, mould temperature controllers, grinders for recycling production scrap, conveyors, packaging equipment, forklifts, quality control instruments, standby power generators, and workshop maintenance tools.

Factory location plays an important role in operational efficiency. Industrial estates within Lagos, Ogun, Anambra, Abia, Rivers, Kano, Delta, or other manufacturing centres offer advantages including better transportation infrastructure, proximity to customers, easier access to skilled labour, and improved availability of utilities.

Raw material procurement represents one of the most important cost components of production. Polypropylene resin prices are influenced by international crude oil prices, foreign exchange rates, and local petrochemical production. Consequently, manufacturers should establish long-term supply agreements with multiple suppliers while maintaining adequate inventory levels to minimize production interruptions.

Recycling offers additional opportunities for improving profitability. Production scrap generated during trimming and machine start-up can be reground and blended with virgin resin for suitable product categories without compromising quality. Effective recycling programmes reduce material waste and improve production efficiency while contributing to environmental sustainability.

The marketing strategy for plastic hangers should combine wholesale distribution with direct institutional sales. Large distributors provide access to retailers, supermarkets, open markets, and independent wholesalers throughout Nigeria. Direct sales to garment manufacturers, fashion designers, hotels, hospitals, schools, military organizations, dry cleaners, and laundry companies generate stable long-term contracts and predictable revenue.

Digital marketing has also become increasingly important. Corporate websites, social media platforms, WhatsApp Business, Google advertising, and online marketplaces allow manufacturers to showcase products, receive enquiries, process customer orders, and strengthen brand recognition. Product catalogues, instructional videos, and customer testimonials further enhance market credibility.

Pricing strategy should balance competitiveness with profitability. Manufacturers must carefully consider raw material costs, labour, energy, depreciation, transportation, maintenance, overhead expenses, and market competition when determining selling prices. Efficient production planning, optimized machine utilization, and bulk procurement of raw materials contribute significantly to reducing production costs and improving operating margins.

Several opportunities exist for product diversification once the factory becomes established. Imported low-cost products create pricing pressure, while inadequate maintenance may reduce equipment productivity. However, these challenges can be effectively managed through efficient production planning, preventive maintenance, supplier diversification, energy management, and strong product differentiation.

Quality remains one of the most important competitive advantages. Consumers increasingly prefer durable hangers with smooth finishes, attractive colours, high load-bearing capacity, and consistent dimensions. Manufacturers that invest in quality control, precision moulds, skilled operators, and premium raw materials can successfully position themselves within the higher-value segment of the market while commanding premium prices.

Environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly important within the plastics industry. Manufacturers are encouraged to adopt recycling programmes, minimize production waste, optimize energy consumption, and explore the incorporation of recycled plastics into selected product lines where technically feasible. Such initiatives improve both profitability and corporate reputation while supporting national environmental objectives.
